March 16 is National Quilting Day, and what better way to celebrate than with an old-fashioned Quilting Bee! Bees are historically events for quilters to come together and work collectively on a project, and we would like to invite you to participate and help make blocks for donation quilts.
You can come for an hour and sew and press to make String Quilt blocks... they're very easy! We will provide all the fabric and thread, we just need your help to sew. As this is a free event, please inform us if you can no longer attend the time you booked; this enables us to invite someone else to participate.
The blocks will be assembled into finished quilts and donated to local charity Bread & Beyond, for inclusion in The Essentials Box Initiative. This program aims to provide people moving out of homelessness or vulnerable housing situations, with the basic essentials for daily living. The set of 5 boxes- kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, grocery and cleaning- aim to improve the chances of a successful transition by ensuring that the essential needs of individuals are met; allowing them to eat, sleep and bathe in comfort on their first night in their new home. Recently, quilters have also donated quilts, so that there is a cozy personal item in the boxes as well.
